How to Match High Heels and Stockings

Black and white, Dolce & Gabanna, high heels and stockings – some pairs are just meant to be. But don’t get us wrong, thigh highs hold up perfectly fine alone. High heels just bring them to new heights (shameless pun use intended.)

But even the most divine match made in heaven needs some persuasion sometimes because, let’s be real, not every pair of high heels goes with every pair of thigh highs – and that’s perfectly fine!

We love the variation in thigh highs just as much as we love it in high heels. So we can appreciate that while a pair of bold stilettoes can really breathe life into any otherwise subtle pair of black sheers, we know not to add them to a patterned mix. Call it being fashionably wise or call it limiting yourself – we call it knowing how to match high heels and stockings to perfection.

Want to Learn our Way? Now you can …

Here’s How to Match Thigh Highs With High Heels

Be Intentional

Chances are, if you are wearing heels, you are dressing to impress. If so, you’ll want to wear stockings as well. Stockings take your message, and they announce it loud and clear for all to hear: “I mean business, I didn’t come here to play around, I know what I’m about, and yes, I also know fashion.”

Where Can High Heels and Stockings be Worn?

Most people associate heels and stockings with formal wear. But the tides are changing, and so too are mindsets.

We’d argue that high heels and stockings can be worn absolutely anywhere that common sense allows. In other words, the gym’s off-limits, and the beach is a no-go. Aside from that, we give the green card to this stylish power duo.

From adding fire to a hot date to looking in control while landing a job, there’s nothing this combo can’t help you accomplish. Even if you want to become the best-dressed guest at a wedding? They’ve got that covered. Of course, different types of heels rise to different occasions, and usually, you should use your thigh highs as a base to work off of.

What type of stockings to wear?

As one half of the high heel-thigh high duo, you’re going to have to learn a thing or two about thigh highs.

Start Simple

Okay, we don’t exactly mean simple, but you get what we mean, right? Sheer stockings are kind of like the little black dress or jeans and t-shirt of the stockings world. They can be styled endlessly while holding their own, even when unadorned.

In other words, sheer stockings are a classic entry point to the varied world of stockings, making them the perfect canvas on which to test various high heels!

For this purpose, we offer the fabulous sheer power team of ISABELLA, PRISCILLA, and REGINA.

ISABELLA is reminiscent of the styles worn by Elizabeth Taylor. In all her sophistication and elegance, she still makes proof of some sauciness, and all with a gorgeously detailed band to boot!

PRISCILLA, not that we’re prone to comparison, is a lot like ISABELLA but with a pop of color. The same ultra-fine, silky smooth sheer with a floral-inspired band that’s perfect for the gal who loves to wear black heels but wants to make a statement nonetheless.

REGINA, as her name would suggest, really is a queen. She doesn’t need many bells or whistles to look utterly gorgeous. It goes without saying that she’s flawlessly sheer and somewhat pleasingly minimalist-chic thanks to her solid band.

A classic pair of black high heels never fails to complete any sheer stocking look. Together, this timeless duo can be worn pretty much anywhere while evoking that effortlessly “dressed up” allure that’s always a trademark of the most beautiful woman in the room. Or, opt for a black pair with dramatic heels to add a little extra “oomph” to any outfit.

Ankle boots also always go with sheer stockings, so why would things be any different for high heel ankle boots? You can even evoke a more sultry yet formal look with closed-toe high heels. Take your look into the night by appealing to the shimmer factor with sparkling, glittery high heels.

And we can’t leave this section without letting you know that you can definitely make a statement with animal-print high heels.

Take it up a Notch

Don’t worry; you don’t have to take the leap to patterns just yet. Stockings have a wonderful way of taking you by the hand and leading you to manageable pastures once you’re ready to take things further. First, they present to you: the simply delicious back seam.

Back Seam stockings are vintage-chic at its finest. The slim line running down the back of your leg from the tip of your thigh to the toe adds a hint of delicate delicacy that’s simply tantalizing and unique, ensuring you’re the most flawless woman.

For us, there is no more flawless or utterly gorgeous set of back seam stockings than the lovely ALBA.

We recommend ALBA black or ALBA hazelnut when it comes to pairing with heels. These two colors work seamlessly (pun intended) with various high heels. The back seam works toward a more dramatic look without crossing into statement territory.

You can also play wonderfully off this retro look by opting for adorably detailed high heels. You also can’t go wrong with a pair of glossy black heels that create a fashionably polished appeal with a sultry-chic twist.

To amp up the exclusivity factor, we recommend you go for a dazzling silver or golden pair of heels that are simply irresistible when paired with back seam stockings.

Go All Out

Some occasions and moods simply call for being a little extra. To answer that call, we have both ADRIA and CORA. There’s a particular art to being absolutely one-of-a-kind and show-stopping without looking OTT, and ADRIA is the master of it. Fabulous stockings like we’ve never seen before, ADRIA is sultry fishnets featuring sublime coral motifs. We can’t deny that she’s made for high heels. There’s a certain “occasion” to the style that demands a little extra pomp. Interestingly, however, instead of pushing the look into a gaudy territory, a pair of high heels seems to complete these gorgeous fishnet stockings, no matter what the heel color or type (though we recommend black, glossy heels!)

However, if you’d like to let the exquisite style speak for itself, we recommend you sport a pair of subtly fabulous black heels.

CORA, on the other hand, is like a work of art in her own right. Chantilly pattern-inspired, the design of these arresting thigh highs follows a symmetrical, art-deco style that doesn’t overwhelm but rather intrigues.

We can’t help but think a pair of red heels bring out the best in this thigh highs style, especially if steaminess is your aim. In fact, CORA with any shade of heels just exudes romance and sensuality.

If your aim is to completely hog the spotlight in utterly flawless style, then a dramatic heel is just the thing for you!

However, what we truly recommend for both styles are relatively pared-back high heels (at least in design, not so much style.) After all, you don’t want your gorgeous stockings to be hidden away or outshone by your footwear. Our solution: a pair of revealing heels.

What do the High Heel and Stocking Trends Look Like?

Right about now, there’s nothing hotter than matching heels and stockings. So, even though we haven’t quite yet said goodbye to the long-loved contrasting look – we are trying something new.

While low-denier, ultra-sheers have always been paired off with glossy, sleek heels, this timeless look is witnessing a fresh, exciting, and much-welcome twist. We believe it to be part of the broader monochrome trend we’re seeing kicking into action come this winter. Admittedly, this trend has been brimming for some time and has never entirely disappeared over time.

Since moving to LA, Tom Ford’s taste has moved from jaw-dropping exuberance to subtly mesmerizing designs. Dropping his Fall ready-to-wear collection during Paris fashion week, we were treated to several monochrome numbers, and you just know we were delighted to see that stockings made a stunning (and very abundant) appearance. Turquoise stockings paired with turquoise evening sandals would usually fall into the “only fit for the catwalk” category. However, Tom Ford’s approach didn’t look as “unreachable haute couture” as it did right-on-trend.

The same effect persisted across all colors: Red satin stockings paired with red heels. Purple on purple, and yes, even somehow managing to make green stockings go with green heels, which we could never have fully envisioned, but it goes down a treat.

And there you have it!

You’ve already go the beauty, so let thigh highs and high heels showcase it to the world! With these two fabulously versatile and exciting fashion pieces, you could easily take on the world every day, and in flawless style to boot!
